Our team and mission
The Space Safety Programme Coordination Office is responsible for outlining the strategy, directing the planning and drafting the policy of the Programme, as well as for relations with Member States. The Office also takes care of the Space Safety Programme’s external relations, coordination, communication and outreach, directly supporting the Head of the Space Safety Programme Office and the Director of Operations.
Based at ESA HQ in Paris, you will join a young and multidisciplinary team, including engineers and social scientists, in an international and multicultural environment. The role will offer daily collaboration with a wide variety of external partners and numerous other ESA directorates and corporate services, providing a dynamic and stimulating work setting.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship
Under the supervision of the Head of the Space Safety Programme Coordination Office, you will contribute to all of the Office’s areas of responsibility, including but not restricted to:

supporting activities aiming to develop and strengthen relevant communities of stakeholders in support of space safety and sustainability objectives, including through the Protect Accelerator, in coordination with the Space Safety Programme teams and other relevant structures in the Agency. In particular, you will play a central role in:
- the promotion of the Zero Debris Charter and in the implementation of ESA’s engagement roadmap with the
Zero Debris Community; - the identification and consolidation of communities of users of space weather services, in collaboration with the ESA Space Weather Office, especially through the Space Weather Demonstrator project.

supporting the Head of the Space Safety Programme Coordination Office in all of their duties, including on:
- formulating the Space Safety Programme’s strategy along with its policy and future planning;
- maintaining relations with Member States and fostering relations with European and international partners;
- outlining the Programme’s communication and outreach strategy;
- monitoring national, European and international space safety and sustainability trends;
- drafting ad hoc reports, analyses, briefings, speeches and presentations.

Education
You should have just completed, or be in the final year of your master’ s degree in space policy, law, engineering, or sicence.
Additional requirements
You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in international teams can be considered an asset. Your motivation, overall professional perspective and career goals will also be explored during the later stages of the selection process.
Dual expertise in social sciences and engineering would be a strong asset.
