Our team and mission
The Communication Department establishes and implements the ESA Communication Policy aiming at increasing the Agency’s reputation and brand while ensuring greater awareness of ESA’s programmes and activities by adapting and prioritising the messaging and publication agenda to a mixed audience including the general public, the media, ESA Member States, political stakeholders, international partners and ESA’s own workforce. Lastly it assesses the impact of ESA’s communications through opinion polls, impact assessments surveys and benchmarking studies as well as digital content analytics. Within the Department, the Outreach Division ensures the deployment of the ESA brand across the Agency as well as the coordination of public and media relations activities across ESA establishments and Member States while overseeing the Department’s budget and manpower resources, its key performance indicators, its quality and risk management processes, internal policies, administration, service level agreements and workflow process.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship
Reporting directly to the Head of Outreach Division of the ESA Communication Department you will support the development and deployment of specific outreach collaboration.
In particular, you will start by focusing on supporting the development of collaboration axes and activities between the European Space Agency and H-FARM (www.h-farm.com/en) with a specific attention towards events and public engagements by for example:
- ensuring the role of the ESA contact point to consolidate an ESA Presence @ H-FARM on a regular basis (ESAparticipation to H-FARM Career Day, to H-FARM Open day, etc...),
- supporting the development with H-FARM of hackathons & challenges on ESA Data,
- organizing ESA Participation in H-FARM Events to share projects and space use-cases with different audiences, not only technical ones,
- collaborating to the deployment of Citizen Science & Schools/Communities on a theme agreed with ESA and HFARM,
- defining area of collaboration between the H-FARM Big Rock Institute (www.bigrock.it/en) and ESA particularly regarding the development of AI generated graphic applications and XR/AR development,
- proposing and implementing any other actions that could benefit the development of a continuous relationship, rapid activation of projects and qualified visibility of both partners.
The list above is not exhaustive, and you might explore other opportunities of collaboration between the two entities. Your starting point will be to develop and establish in collaboration with H-FARM a detail plan of actions with defined timeline of implementation. To ensure the running of these actions you will liaise adequately with the different offices of the Department that might be relevant for the development of these activities, and in particular the ESA Member States Outreach Office and the ESA Brand Outreach Office.
Finally, with the final objective of developing ESA networking and visibility with non-space audiences, you will investigate and explore the potentiality to replicate these outreach activities developed in this specific context, with other potential partners/institutions of the same nature.
